St. Joseph's Abbey: Spencer, Massachusetts

St. Joseph's Abbey is a monastery of the Catholic Order of Cistercians of the Strict Observance (O.C.S.O.), popularly known as the "Trappists", located in Spencer, Massachusetts.

The Abbey was founded in 1950 by Belgian and French Trappist monks from the Monastery of Our Lady of the Valley in Valley Falls, Rhode Island, which had burned to the ground. In the rustic hills of central New England, they established a new home in which to follow an age-old contemplative way of life.

The monastery became known internationally as the origin of the Centering Prayer movement, whose leading proponents were monks at the monastery: Fr. William Meninger, Fr. M. Basil Pennington and Fr. Thomas Keating.

Work has always been greatly esteemed in the Cistercian tradition, since it gives the monks the opportunity to follow in Christ' footsteps and share in His Divine work of creation and restoration. The monks participate in three major industries which provide for their livelihood and for the care of the poor. Since the 1950s, they have produced Trappist Preserves, their popular line of 30 flavors of jams and jellies. Since 1949, The Holy Rood Guild has created beautiful, finely-tailored liturgical vestments to enhance the dignity of the Sacred Liturgy. In 2014, with the advice and assistance of their brother Trappists in Belgium, the monks founded Spencer Brewery, producing the first and only certified Trappist beer made in the United States.

We have decided we can't find the boysenberry jam on a regular enough basis here in MA, so ordering from you has been the best idea I ever had. It's great that we can order a 12-pack and they last us a while. Boysenberry is so scrumptious, we go through a jar in a little over a week. Thank you for making this jam and for having it available for shipping!!

I will never eat another Jam when I can eat the TRAPPIST BOYSENBERRY SEEDLESS JAM! Why should I? this is the best taste in jams I have ever had, Only one store near me where I can find it in Upper West Side of Manhattan and since I have been too busy to get there I found it easier to come here Online to purchase. ....When I get office supply deliveries here at my company I ask the UPS or Fed Ex guys to try it out and their eyes Pop and they asked where to get it too, they actually write it down to show their wives so they will get it too!..It's the BEST OF ALL THE BESTS!!!

Trappist Boysenberry Preserves is my favorite jelly or jam of all time. After a friend has tasted it, I usually give them a gift of a jar. It is hard to find even at stores that carry this brand.

I buy the preserves by the case. Boysenberry is the best. No seeds and a nice fruity flavor. Being from the Midwest, boysenberry is not to be found. When, I'm down to a jar or two, I order a case. My daughter loves it on her peanut butter sandwich. I love it on toast. Yum!

Trappist Boysenberry is our all-time family favorites jam. We were so disappointed when the local gracery stores stopped shelving it about two years ago. But glad that we can get it fast, fresh and easily via internet. I have a case delivered to work about once a year and pass out six jars to co-workers, keeping six for my family.
