BROTHERS AND SISTERS
Glimpses of the Cloistered Life
By Frank Monaco
Leave behind the barrage of stimulus and unending bustle of the contemporary world with this gorgeous collection of seventy black and white photographs of traditional Catholic monastic life.
During his fifty years as a photographer, Frank Monaco (1917-2007) was often welcomed as a guest within the walls of enclosed monasteries and convents throughout Western Europe. His photos depict more than these buildings; they reveal the life of the monks and nuns who call these places their home. Includes moments of prayer, work and play. Accompanying each photo is an extract from a monastic rule -- Benedictine, Carthusian, Carmelite and others -- that guides their lives.
