Christ Pantocrator (Sinai) Icon

The Face of Jesus

The Christ Pantocrator (Greek "ruler of all") of St. Catherine's Monastery at Sinai is one of the oldest Byzantine icons, dating from the 6th century. The monastery's remote location enabled the image to survive the iconoclastic era in Byzantine history, when most icons were destroyed.

Many agree that the different expressions on either side of the face emphasize Christ's dual nature as fully God and fully human. The book of the Gospel in his left hand represents righteous judgment, while the right hand's gesture of blessing shows loving kindness and forgiveness.

Printed on 5/8" thick wood composite with a glossy finish and beveled black edges; keyhole on back for hanging.

Large is 8" x 16"
Small is 5" x 10"

So happy I bought this! Looks great and is of excellent quality. I hope they never stop selling this item; it's the 2nd one I've purchased and no doubt won't be the last. :)
