Carmel of St. Joseph: Terre Haute, Indiana

Fourteen nuns cloistered within the Carmel of St. Joseph, a Discalced Carmelite monastery south of Terre Haute, Indiana, work, pray, serve the people of the community and serve the Lord in silence and solitude.

Founded in 1947, the purpose of this monastery is unceasing prayer for the needs of the Church. The sisters also practice iconography, photography and calligraphy, and hand-craft prayer gift cards. They share a spirit of joy, sisterly love and cooperation in their purposeful community.

We purchased St Teresa of Jesus and St John of the Cross because they are favorite saints. The icons are harmonious, remind us of their values and teachings, and are large enough to see across a room. We place them in front of a video screen we do not use for TV, but only for videos. They form a great devotional replacement for a blank screen.
