Friar Alessandro Brustenghi is a member of the original friary founded by St. Francis in Assisi. His compelling tenor voice, expressive and joyful, has made him the first friar in history to land a major record deal.

His debut album collects a variety of sacred arias and songs, both traditional and modern. These include Schubert's Ave Maria and Mascagni's Sancta Maria (from Cavalleria Rusticana) and a recently discovered aria by Bellini, plus new settings of prayers by St. Francis. The Franciscan theme is established in the first track with Donovan's song Fratello Sole, Sorella Luna from Franco Zeffirelli's film biography of St. Francis, Brother Sun, Sister Moon.

Having taken a vow of poverty, and living a simple Franciscan life, Friar Alessandro will not accept any money from sales of the album; proceeds benefit the charitable works of the Order of Friars Minor.

Friar Alessandro's exquisite tenor voice resonates with joy and love. The selection of songs, arias and prayers some modern and some traditional) are most inspiring and beautiful. I love to listen to this in my car while I'm driving, since it promotes a feeling of peace and love - a good way to feel in heavy traffic!
