All-Merciful Saviour Monastery: Vashon Island, Washington
All-Merciful Savior Monastery is a small English-speaking monastic community of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia and is their only male monastery in Washington state. It was established in 1986 by Archimandrite Dmitri in California, and in 1988, under the leadership of Hieromonk Tryphon, moved to the heavily forested and scenic Vashon Island. Through the generosity of islanders John and Georgia Ratzenberger, who gave them five acres of land, the monks were able to begin building a permanent presence on the island. Through God's mercy and the generosity and hard work of islanders and Orthodox Christians across the country, the monastic community constructed a small chapel dedicated to St. John the Wonderworker of Shanghai and San Francisco, the katholikon (main temple) dedicated to the Holy Protection of the Theotokos, as well as three monastic cells and a library building.
The monastery has become well-known for its fine selection of Monastery Blend Coffees, sales of which support them in their efforts.
