Serving suggestion: Dust with confectioner's sugar. Mission Farm Fruit Tarts are shipped fresh and have a room-temperature shelf life of about two weeks. They freeze well, but refrigeration only softens them and removes their crunch.
Mission Farm Bakery: Rutland, Vermont
Mission Farm Bakery is located on the 170 acre property of Church of Our Saviour in Killington, Vermont. The historic Episcopal church was built in 1817. In addition to the church, Mission Farm includes a guest and retreat house, a vicarage, and the bakery, staffed by Tim Owings.
Since 1997 Tim has lived a contemplative life in a log cabin on the church grounds; after a quarter-century as a professional baker he decided to use his energy and talents to produce cookies, cakes and fruit tarts whose sales benefit the ministries of the Church of Our Savior, including a women's shelter. Owings says, "It's satisfying to know I've helped in some small way." In addition to operating the bakery, he is also the church's organist and gardener.
