Tiffany Holy Spirit Window Silk (square)

First Presbyterian Church,
Springfield, Illinois
TIFFANY HOLY SPIRIT WINDOW SILK

Also known as the Tiffany Dove Window, the Holy Spirit Window was made and installed in Springfield's First Presbyterian Church in the mid-1890s. The brilliance and iridescence of the window typify Louis Comfort Tiffany's now legendary stained glass technique, in which he duplicated glass colors produced in ancient Troy and Cyprus. The myriad jewel-toned colors along the border of this silk almost radiate light; the dove at each end reflects Spirit and beauty. As stated in the Presbyterian Church's Confession of 1967, "The arts, especially music and architecture, contribute to the praise and prayer of a Christian congregation when they help people look beyond themselves to God and to the world which is the object of His love." 100% silk twill, 35" X 35", hand-rolled hem.

Out of Stock. We expect more in fall 2012. Order now, and we will charge and ship when they arrive.

A note about the Latin Text...Pope Damasus recognized the need for an accurately-translated Latin text of the Gospels to be used during services. In 382, he appointed a young, scholarly priest, Jerome, later St Jerome, to revise all Latin translations of the Gospels. In due course, St Jerome's translation was adopted by the Church as the official Latin text. Over 300 years later, it was used for the Lindisfarne Gospels. St Jerome's Letter to Pope Damasus introduces the manuscript.

Each of the four gospels features an elaborate, decorative "carpet" page based on the form of a cross. 100 % silk twill. 12" X 66", hand-rolled hem.
