Monastery Style Beers
|
Imported from Germany REUTBERGER EXPORT DUNKEL (16.9 oz)
Over 300 years ago the nuns of the Reutberg Cloister brewed the seminal Export-style beer that was the basis of the world-renowned Bavarian style of beer. Out of that tradition arose this dark Export Dunkel (ABV 5.2%), a rich, deep-red beer with malty aromas of chocolate, coffee, molasses and caramel, plus a surprising lightness.
In the late 17th century the Franciscan nuns of Reutberg Cloister south of Munich began to brew beer for their own use. Over the years they developed several varieties of high quality beer for sale, continuing into the 20th century. In 1924 Father Alois Daisenberger and farmers of the region established a cooperative independent of the monastery to carry on the nuns' longstanding brewing traditions.

Imported from Germany REUTBERGER EXPORT HELL (16.9 oz)
The recipe for this bit of Heaven (Hell is the German adjective for "light") was created by the Reutberg Cloister nuns so the beer could travel. They added larger amounts of hops and malts for a more concentrated lager without high alcohol. Open tank fermentation, low temperatures and slow lagering over 8 weeks make for a very dense and austere beer with a perfect balance of hops and malts (ABV 5.1%).
