ST. PATRICK
Patron of Ireland
St. Patrick's (389-461) work in Ireland was astounding: baptizing tens of thousands and establishing a native clergy and church. His work was a sign of tenacity and love in a land that had once held him in slavery. As in very old sculptures of Patrick, here he is shown holding a sheep --- a symbol both of the work he performed when he first arrived and of his work as a shepherd of souls.
Cast in stone and painted by hand. Includes gift box & story card. Stands or hangs on hook. 6" x 2 ¾" x 1 ¼" Made in USA.

Imported from Ireland MONASTERBOICE CROSS (large)
Muiredach's High Cross is a carved sandstone cross from the 10th century, located at the ruined monastic site of Monasterboice, County Louth, Ireland. It has been described as the most beautiful specimen of Celtic stonework now in existence; and among Ireland's greatest contributions to European sculpture.
Bring a reminder of Irish culture and spirituality to your home with this version of the Monasterboice Cross, hand-crafted using 5000-year-old Irish turf from some of Ireland's oldest boglands. Traditionally in rural Ireland, turf (partially decomposed vegetation, which has accumulated in bogs for thousands of years) is cut into sods, dried and used as a fuel. For these pieces, a kiln is used to dry the turf, which is then processed in order to ready it for carving with Celtic designs. 7" H x 2 5/8" W x 2" D, gift boxed.

ST. PATRICK RETABLO St. Patrick's (389-461) work in Ireland was astounding: baptizing tens of thousands and establishing a native clergy and church. A native of Roman Britain, as a boy he was captured from Britain by Irish raiders and taken as a slave to Ireland, where he lived for six years before escaping and returning to his family. After entering the Church, he returned to Ireland as an ordained bishop in the north and west of the island. His work was a sign of tenacity and love in a land that had once held him in slavery. He has been honored since at least the 8th century as the patron saint of Ireland.
With her retablos, artist Ann Burt hopes to create renewed interest in the historical art of retablo making. Although they don't necessarily mimic the traditional look of the Mexican devotional paintings they recall, they share in their symbolism and purpose, which is to focus on prayerful devotion to God and the saints.
Print from original art mounted on wood with leather strip for hanging, 5" W x 6" H.
