Easter Triptych
Based on late 19th-century Russian iconography, the closed panels depict soldiers guarding the tomb and the approach of Mary Magdalene, Mary Mother of James, and Salome. Open, it reveals the holy women meeting Christ resurrected and the angel who struck fear in the soldiers, rolled back the stone and announced His return. RESURRECTION TRIPTYCH
This travel-sized triptych, based on a late 19th-century icon from central Russia, depicts on its exterior Mary Magdalen, Mary Mother of James, and Salome approaching the Roman-guarded tomb. The interior portrays the risen Christ in front of the open tomb, flanked on the right panel by the women, with the angel who delivered the good news shown on the left. Silver foil highlights. Approx. 4 " X 4 " closed; span of 8 " open.
