From the Carmelite Monastery of Reno A CONTEMPLATIVE CHRISTMAS (CD)
From the Carmel of Reno, A Contemplative Christmas is a selection of sacred Christmas music in beautiful, instrumental arrangements designed to quiet the heart and draw the listener into that contemplative space where the meaning of the season, 'Emmanuel, God with us', can be experienced anew as a living reality.
Features 22 of the world's most loved carols from "O Come, O Come, Emmanuel," "I Wonder as I Wander," "Silent Night" and "O Holy Night" to "Ding Dong Merrily on High." The combination of instruments (Sr. Clorinda on piano; Sr. Rosalind on harp; Sr. Rosemary on recorder; Sr. Claire on cello and guest Jennifer Sokol on violin) is exquisite; CD includes eight original arrangements by Sr. Claire heard here for the first time. The sisters pray that this music will convey the peace and joy of the Christmas message to all who receive it.

Claire Sokol, OCD, pursued a musical career, majoring in cello performance and graduating from Indiana University. Before entering Carmel she performed with the Omaha, Winnipeg, and Vancouver Symphonies. She composed a hymn, Thérèse's Canticle of Love for the centenary celebrations of the Carmelite saint. More recently she composed the music for a one-woman play, Thérèse, The Story of a Soul and expanded that music for the film score of the movie Thérèse. All three choral renditions of the Canticle as well as selections from the movie soundtrack are included in this CD.
