15 DAYS OF PRAYER WITH THOMAS MERTON
15 Days of Prayer With Thomas Merton will lead you, over a period of fifteen days or fifteen prayer sessions, to a place of prayer where a stronger relationship with God is possible.
This simple, Cistercian monk was one of the most humane and engaging spiritual figures of the twentieth century. He was a man of paradoxes: of words and silence; a contemplative involved in the fight for social justice; a man of solitude who, by keeping himself in the background, sought to deepen the fundamental human experience. Ultimately, he was a man with only one goal: union with God and communion with humankind. One word sums up his effort: contemplation. For him, the greatest need of today's Christian is inner truth, nourished by the contemplative spirit. Paperback, 97 pages

CHOOSING TO LOVE THE WORLD
Thomas Merton on Contemplation
Amid the noise and distractions of everyday life, is it really possible to choose to love the world? In these times of uncertainty and anxiety, how can we find God? Merton felt the urgency of these questions more than 50 years ago, and his reflections are more meaningful than ever. This inspirational compendium is selected from his most thoughtful books and letters by Jonathan Montaldo of the Merton Institute in Trappist, Kentucky. Hardcover, 192 pages
"Life consists in learning to live on one's own, spontaneous, freewheeling: to do this one must recognize what is one's own -- be familiar and at home with oneself. This means basically learning who one is, and learning what one has to offer the contemporary world, and then learning how to make that offering valid."
-- Thomas Merton

ECHOING SILENCE
Thomas Merton on the Vocation of Writing
With the publication of his international best-seller The Seven Storey Mountain, Thomas Merton struggled with fame and his calling to be a writer. Eventually, he came to accept both vocations -- monk and writer -- as a source of creative tension. The journey as well as Merton's thoughts on writing are compiled here for the first time. Chapters cover a range of topics: writing as a spiritual calling, the Christian writer in a secular society, and his takes on other writers, including Flannery O'Connor, Dylan Thomas, and many others. Paperback, 215 pages.

SURVIVAL OR PROPHECY?
The Letters of Thomas Merton & Jean Leclercq
"What is a monk?" is the central question of 20 years of correspondence between Trappist Thomas Merton and Benedictine Jean Leclercq. As they discuss ancient texts and modern conveniences, the life of a hermit versus communal life, and the validity of various approaches to monasticism, their humanity heralds the continuing appeal of contemplative discipline as a witness against ever more worldly structures. COMPASSIONATE FIRE
The Letters of Thomas Merton & Catherine de Hueck Doherty
Just after Thomas Merton's death in 1968, Catholic social activist Catherine de Hueck Doherty wrote to Merton's abbot: "In some strange mysterious way I never quite understood, [he] was in part my spiritual son." Their friendship originated when Merton worked at Friendship House in Harlem, and this volume of warm, candid correspondence traces nearly three decades of friendship through their surviving letters, Doherty's having previously been unpublished. The exchange reveals Merton's development from a young man searching for his place in God's plan, to a monk seeking God through solitude and work for social justice.
Edited by Robert A. Wild, a priest at the Madonna House community in Combermere, Ontario, which was founded by de Hueck Doherty.

SEASONS OF CELEBRATION
Meditations on the Cycle of Liturgical Feasts
Thomas Merton called Seasons of Celebration his "Liturgy book" and this new edition includes a foreword by renowned Merton scholar William H. Shannon. These essays remain timely in view of the ongoing liturgical renewal initiated by Vatican II and are a must-read for those seeking to deepen their grasp of the liturgy and the cycles of the Church year.
"Merton has accomplished what we continue to struggle to do: reunite liturgy and spirituality and make liturgy the fountain of life."---
David Fagerberg, Associate Professor of Theology, Liturgical Studies
University of Notre Dame
